Learn about the experiences and values that shape my approach to counseling.
My practices continue to advance as we learn more about how people can attend to their nervous system; teaching others how to create calm in a chaotic world is my mission. Providing support for the slow movement, the counter-culture rebellion of taking full breaths, pausing before speaking, looking & listening to orient to our environment, coming back to our senses and being human, drives my clinical work.
I have devoted my career to being present with people in need, deeply listening, and honing my skills to offer insight and wisdom based on my ever evolving education.
My educational background spans traditional, small liberal arts education to attending a Buddhist university and studying, what at the time, was a cutting edge, almost fringe, way of becoming a clinician. I earned my BA at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY graduating Cum Laude with a double major in Religion and Psychology. After working at CU Boulder in a Children’s Cognitive Development Lab I returned to school at Naropa University and was part of the third class to graduate with a Master’s in Transpersonal Psychology, emphasis in Wilderness Therapy. At the time meditating and spending time with nature were ancient practices yet to become evidenced based. Twenty years later the origin of my clinical degree is recognized as essential for mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health and well-being.
Over the course of my career I have worked with couples, families, teens and young adults. Recently I have increased my focus on women’s health, including a year long program on Reproductive Mental Health as well as training in Brainspotting for Perinatal Mental Health. As a certified perinatal mental health clinician (PMH-C) I am committed to serving women as they navigate fertility, pregnancy, the medical system, and post-partum.
After years of working in the field and utilizing positive psychology, yoga therapy, gestalt, and equine assisted psychotherapy, I pursued in-person learning with leaders in the field of integrated psychotherapy and psychiatry, Rick Hanson and Bessel Van der Kolk. I am now deeply invested in the work of Stephen Porges and Polyvagal Therapy. Find out more about my Nervous System Approach to Psychotherapy.
