As a licensed professional counselor and somatic psychotherapist my approach is to help you make connections between the information your body is giving you (tension in the neck and shoulders, shortness of breath, bellyaches) and what you are thinking and feeling. Culturally, in North America we have been taught to bypass our physical experience and focus on cognitive development, but what we think is often the source of our suffering. 

Creating Safety and Regulating the Nervous System

You don’t have to believe everything you think, and you don’t have to be in a state of hyperarousal, or completely shut down. These are workable issues and my intention is to empower you to change your experience in the moment. Using a combination of simple somatic techniques (orienting to your environment, becoming aware of breath and slowly, safely adjusting it), the Safe and Sound Protocol, or Brainspotting we will practice living in the Ventral Vagal part of your nervous system, the part that is designed to eat and digest food, to socialize, to trust, to feel safe and available for connection.

 My therapeutic approach is filled with compassion and understanding for why you may have developed strong coping mechanisms (disordered eating, over-identifying work as identity, being defensive, fill in the blank) that are no longer serving you; there is no judgment in this space. There is endless opportunity when you show up and desire change. I believe that you can live a more expansive and embodied life and I have the tools to share with you to help you achieve your goals.

My therapeutic approach is filled with compassion and understanding, traits we often struggle to apply to our own challenges. I am passionate about my evolution as a psychotherapist and devote time and energy to continuing education in neuroscience and psychology. There is such an opportunity for empowerment through psychotherapy; I hope you will allow yourself the opportunity to learn and grow in this way.
